Europe

I write these words with a heavy heart but I believe that Britain should have a referendum on membership of the European Union. I sincerely believe that the majority of the electorate would vote for a pullout from Europe which would be both sad and stupid. The United Kingdom Independence Party, is riding high in the polls at the moment, cashing in on eurosceptic Britain. But really it is a single issue party which wants to pull Britain out of Europe. Okay and then what? Britain will be isolated from Europe which is our main export market. British citizens living on mainland Europe will no longer have equal rights and we will have to get work permits and residence cards to live in Spain. The European Union may have its faults but Britain must continue to be a member because there is no other choice. All those who think about reviving trade with the old Commonwealth are a bit late. The Commonwealth was abandoned in favour of Europe and the damage has already been done.
