Over the past week I have suddenly realised that not only is the future of print national newspapers, as opposed to local publication in doubt as debated on Newsnight last week, so too is that of rolling 24 hour news channels.

With pocket technology now enabling us to click onto a new website in a matter of seconds, TV news channels may find their days are numbered especially if they continue “forcing” stories.

The highlight for me this week, and I felt sorry for the journalist, was Kate's release from hospital.
Sky's man was outside the hospital his two questions went unanswered. No one said anything, so all the whole world knew was that Kate had left hospital and had been driven to Kensington Palace. End of story? No. The Sky journalist then spent the rest of the day, well in to the evening, outside Kensington Palace armed with one snippet of news which he repeated every 20 minutes. That Kate had left hospital.

Gripping live news coverage.
