Sir Roger Gale was the obvious MP to take an interest in the withdrawal of a full-time UK Consul for the Balearics -- he has followed Balearic affairs for many years and contributes a column to the Bulletin.
As today's paper shows, Sir Roger's Questions to the Foreign Office have received a typically defensive answer.
But the point of such Questions is also to remind government departments that they are being watched and may be held to account.
The French have an MP who looks after the interests of all citizens living or working abroad.
Sir Roger Gale would be an excellent choice for a British equivalent.
