Is the Speaker of the Balearic parliament Pere Rotger who resigned this week as he is the subject of an investigation into alleged political corruption. Rotger is a senior member of the ruling Partido Popular and was also Mayor of Inca for many years. He was appointed Speaker by Balearic President Jose Ramon Bauza two years ago. After the President he is one of the most powerful people in the Balearics. His resignation will come as a blow and Bauza has also been criticised for urging Rotger to step down. Opposition parties have said that he couldn´t keep his top job while he was the subject of an corruption investigation. Rotger has said he is confident he will be able to clear his name.
