Palma's hoteliers are now complaining that this is going to be the worst winter ever with a record number of hotel rooms and hotels closing for the season. One of the reasons given is that there is a lack of flights - not from the UK there is not. In fact this winter it is quite the opposite with the highest number of regular flights for many years from a host of airports. And, over Christmas I have heard more English being spoken in the shops and restaurants around Palma than German and Russian. Now - could that be the reason? There was an unexpected drop in German tourists last month and the number of flights between Germany and Majorca is being reduced this winter.

But, with the centre of Palma open for business, open to tourists and residents alike every weekend, surely the hoteliers could make it work.
Again, it is just a mere lack of coordination or interest on behalf of the local tourism bodies.
Get it together. If there are more flights and the shops open all weekend for the first winter ever, then why are so many hotels closing?
As the Bulletin reports today, alternative accommodation proved nearly as popular as hotels last month.
But then again, if you jump on a quick cheap flight down to Palma for a long winter weekend, you will then get stung by the highest hotel prices in Spain.

It is the hoteliers which are ruining tourism.
