DEAR SIR

I am amused to read complaints from all sides regarding tourism. Visitors are complaining about the high cost of car hire, higher than anywhere else in Europe!! Why??

It is also funny to read the local restaurants are complaining about the fact that more hotels are going the “all-inclusive route”.
Perhaps it would help everybody if they changed the draconian laws regarding holiday rentals. This is a completely different market to the all-inclusive hotel type. If this ban were retracted, not only would more holiday homes be rented, but has the tourist industry not woken up to the fact that many people with families prefer to stay in rented accommodation and sample local life?

This group of people rent cars, frequent restaurants, beaches, bars and support local supermarkets.
I find it extraordinary that the Balearics is the only holiday destination in Europe that have this ridiculous law.
We had been renting a lovely apartment for several years, when the owner decided to no longer rent it out due to bullying and threats by the tourist industry. Unfortunately I do not want to stay in all-inclusive type resorts, nor do I wish to pay 1'000 euros per night for 5 and 6 star hotels so I will be seeking out another destination for our holiday this summer.

The tourist industry needs to wake up to the fact that tourism is not only supported through hotels, but restaurants and local attractions, so if this ban were lifted there would be “something” for everyone.
