... those responsible at Westminster Abbey for deciding that Ted Hughes should be admitted to the Abbey's Poets Corner, there to take his entitled place among the greatest of English poets. The quality of Hughes poetry has never been in question -- Seamus Heaney has described it as “a great arch under which the least of poetry's children could enter and feel secure” -- but other considerations have delayed his admittance. Now the right decision has been made and Hughes has the recongition that his superb poetry demands.
