...for the European team running the Large Hadron Collider at Geneva which this week successfully collided two streams of protons at energy of 7 tera electron volts, more than three times the previous record by the American Tevatron. At enormous expense and after an initial failure the Collider is expected to help understanding of the existence in the universe of mass, dark matter and black holes. The bookmaker Paddy Power has offered 100/1 against the Collider finding God -- odds which seem a bit on the mean side.
