DEAR SIR,

IN today's MDB (1st April) exorbitant prices being charged were highlighted by Jason Moore and a letter from a Mr Taylor. I think that even those who live here can get caught out on occasions.

I personally used a new bar/restaurant to take a very small shandy, charged 2.20 euros. Needless to say I will not return, or recommend the place (the contrary!) and it was a noticeably empty at lunchtime.

Seeing Jason (Moore) has “the ear” of Minister Joana Barcelo, I would refer back to an earlier letter of mine, to a bar I know/use that had an official price list displayed, government stamped etc. and I wonder if the question could not be asked of the Minister if this is obligatory?

If bars/restaurants had to display such prices, it might have some effect on overpricing. Ideally the old system of prices to be charged according to the classification of the establishment would be best, and avoid the present rip-offs. When reading the many letters from readers to the MDB, lots have interesting, first hand experiences by visitors and residents alike, and as so many touch on tourism, from prices charged to service given, state of roads, etc - a very long list are not translated to Spanish and given to the Minister Joana Barcelo as a true example of the feelings of tourists, and why so many may not return to Majorca, something she will not read in the Spanish press. So Mr Editor, a once per week round-up of the most pertinent emailed to the Minister might get results! Yours sincerely,

Graham Phillips
