There are growing calls for the Marivent royal palace in Cala Major to be opened to the public. I can´t really understand why anyone could have any objections, Marivent is a fantastic building and has beautiful gardens and some breathtaking views over the Bay of Palma. It is used about a month a year by the Spanish royal family and therefore for eleven months of the year it is empty so it could become a major attraction for tourists and residents alike. Two summers ago I went on a guided tour of Buckingham Palace which opens to the public in August. It is fantastic place to visit which I would strongly recommend to all. The money raised through the ticket sales goes to help pay for the palace upkeep. Every year thousands of people visit Buckingham Palace and it has rapidly become one of the most visited attractions in London. Marivent Palace could be the same. I am sure that the Spanish royal family would not oppose the move, infact I bet they would welcome it. There is so much history at Marivent; it has been visited by world leaders from President Bill Clinton to Mikhail Gorbachez and also royal visitors from Prince Charles and Princess Diana to Queen Elizabeth. In these hard times when Majorca faces increased competition from resorts across the world this island needs as many tourist attractions as possible. Marivent Palace, with its long royal connections, could easily become a major asset to Majorca´s tourist industry.
