T HE Port of Palma has recently spent millions of euros on building a new quay which can cater for the biggest cruise ships in the world. Now, the Port of Palma, is obviously making money out of all the cruise ships which are coming to port but I wonder if Palma and indeed Majorca is getting the most out of the thousands of cruise ship passengers. Sunday is a busy day for cruise ships but as we all know the majority of shops are closed. Not even some restaurants are open. A sizeable number of passengers don´t go ashore at all, preferring to take advantage of their all inclusive food and drink rather than venturing into the city. This is why the local authorities should try and encourage as many cruise ship passengers into Palma as possible. Perhaps a free shuttle bus would be an idea? Perhaps, a major tourist information office could be established in the port? There is plenty of potential but unfortunately at the moment, as far as Palma businesses are concerned, it is just a drop in the ocean.
