Dear Sir, JASON Moore, editor of The Daily Bulletin, was spot on in his “Viewpoint” of Tuesday, 17th April, about the couple who cut short their holiday in Minorca because of the bad weather. They spent the rest of their holiday in sunny Blackpool in the North of England.

Yes, it is wake-up time in the Balearics but the problems are more serious and more urgent in Minorca than Majorca because Majorca has always had a solid block of tourists who will come back year after year due to the Island's activity and glamour, not to mention its easy and cheap access.

Minorca is quite different. The people who come to here prefer lovely quiet beaches, good food and drink at reasonable prices and above all, a quiet, restful holiday.

It used to be like that when I came on holiday many years ago. Now the beaches are often unattended and neglected and prices are sky high. Currently, even before the season has properly started, a small glass of water can cost between 1.50 and 1.70 euros and a small glass of beer is between 1.70 and 1.90 euros.

Finally, construction work is completely out of control, at least on the Ciutadella side of the island, and it is destroying the natural beauty that the tourist in Minorca appreciates so much.

Forget Committees and investigations taking at least two seasons to have any effect. Come and look and it will be obvious what needs to be done.
Bernard Murphy, Ciutadella, Minorca
