By Jason Moore I think the words that best sum-up Queen Elizabeth is stability and duty. These are words which cannot be said lightly. Over the years there have been plenty of calls for the British monarchy to modernise and become more in touch with modern-day Britain. Today, everyone is obsessed with being modern. Britain is not a modern country, it likes nothing better than celebrating an event from the past. Britain likes Queen Elizabeth, just how she is. It was clear yesterday as she walked around Windsor and it was clear during the events to mark her Jubilee. But what people in Britain sometimes forget is that she is also Queen of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Jamaica and a number of other smaller states. She is an important figurehead for the Commonwealth. While Britain's place in the world has changed, the monarchy remains very much the same offering stability in rather unsettled times. The future does appear to be bright for the monarchy in Britain and even quite understandable republican calls from across the globe have faded away. Yesterday, was a glorious day for the Queen and let's hope that she enjoys plenty more. She must remain as Queen for as long as she feels fit to carry out her long list of duties. Any talk of change must remain on hold for now and for a very long time.
