ONE of the biggest growth sports in Spain at the moment is rugby as Spaniards turn their back, to some extent, on football. Now, this is quite amazing for a country which is quite literally football mad. But in Spain, unfortunately, there are just two teams and the others. Real Madrid and Barcelona reign supreme, and the fact that they will have played each other four times in a month clearly underlines their dominance of Spanish football.

The big names in international football play in Spain but just at the top two clubs, the rest of the league have rather average players and their respective clubs battle for financial survival. This is not a criticism, I would still say that the lesser teams in Spain are better than their counterparts in other leagues but the Spanish league has certainly become a two horse race and there is no room for the others.

This is the reason I believe more people are turning to other sports. Okay, we are just talking a small number but it is certainly the case at the moment. A similar sort of affair has occured in Britain and rugby has become a major growth support. The days of the beautiful game are not numbered but we know that it has plenty of faults which need to be rectified sooner rather than later.
