He says his next novel, State of England, will deliver “the final insult” -- although he allows that the English themselves “have spirit, are tolerant and full of good humour”. In an interview he told a French magazine that, unlike his father Kingsley Amis, he would not take a knighthood if it were offered to him. Fat chance!
