RATHER poor timing from Manchester City. On the day that the “red side” were celebrating yet another league title and saying farewell to Sir Alex Ferguson they dismiss their manager, Roberto Mancini. The fact that he was going was the worst kept secret in football so why not fire him earlier or later? For Manchester United it must have felt like a double celebration. Not only had they won the league their bitter rivals were in turmoil. But Mancini had to go. If he had been the Chelsea manager he wouldn´t have even started the season! City have spent millions on players and have won little. It is also a cut throat game, football, and Mancini has been given time and money. The Gulf state owners wanted to see Manchester City contesting for honours in the Champions League, in the end they couldn´t even take the FA Cup. So Mancini rides off alongside Sir Alex Ferguson and Rafa Benitez. Next season we will probably see Manuel Pellegrini at City and Jose Mourinho at Chelsea and David Moyes at Manchester United and who knows. It should be an interesting season although Manchester City need to move fast if they are to hang on to all their stars. Mourinho could be given 200 million pounds to spend on players if he joins Chelsea and I suspect that the other London sides will be looking to strengthen their sides. So farewell Mancini, in the end it was the reds who were laughing despite the big end of season finale last year.
