The Palma police have launched a campaign along the Playa de Palma which bans so-called street parties and to some extent street drinking after 9p.m. This legislation was drawn up to end the street parties along the Paseo Maritimo which were attended by hundreds of Spanish teenagers. Unfortunately, most German tourists start drinking at 9a.m. so by 9p.m. they have probably had their fair share. Why doesn't the council ban street drinking completely along the Playa de Palma? It would ease many problems. As I said in this space quite recently I have seen tourists heading to the beach with bottles of vodka early in the morning. I do believe that the Palma city council is rather missing the point. You need legislation in the resorts which covers any sort of problem which may arise from street drinking to petty crime. I know times are hard and tourists obviously want to have a good time but there must be law and order in our resorts for the sake of tourists and residents.
