Dear Sir,

LOCAL GOVERNMENT SPENDING

AT a time of supposed austerity, it's amazing to see just how much pubic money has/still is, being mis-managed by the Palma/Majorcan Government.

1. Cycle lanes - expensive exercise obviously embarked upon without a feasibility study. If Avenidas chaos/Genova lanes to nowhere and Son Cayetano School chaos (due this week) are anything to go by.

2. Project announcement notices (large white/red wooden hoardings) cost 4'000 euros each! I've lost count the number in Palma alone.
3. Change of street names into Catalan - present cost 200'000 euros.
4. Change of colour of “Council Livery” (now black/grey) cost unknown.
5. Proposed increase in parking/street cleaing/policing for Paseo Maritimo “botellon”. A “happening” being banned by other island municipalities along with many main land town councils.

All above monies have been spent and yet there have been insufficient funding to rid schools of temporary/pre-fabricated buildings before the start of the school year, on which there is a high probability of a swine fever epidemic.

Cries of “what crisis” by the city council, are now being followed by requests to the PP Party to join with THE PACT to help solve the present and forthcoming problems. (PACT infighting being the cause of many of the present problems).

A winter of discontent is fast approaching with many people having little or no money. We have a right to account, ability from our councillors, as to the spending of our hard earned cash - collected by them in the form of taxes.

Yours sincerely
M. Irving
