Something needs to be done about Magalluf.  Four young tourists have died in the space of four weeks in balcony falls. At least half a dozen more have been injured in similar circumstances.  What is going on? Can you imagine if a similar state of affairs was occuring in a holiday resort in Britain? There would be questions in the House of Parliament and I suspect that even the British government would get involved. So what is going to be done about Magalluf? I think that the time for talking is over and we now need action. This is a very serious problem and Ithink that everyone involved in tourism, the police and the local authorities need to get together and come up with a plan of action and quick. In previous Viewpoints I have congratulated the Calvia Council for trying to crackdown on rowdy behaviour in Magalluf by increasing the police presence. But now they should perhaps go even further and with the support of other local authorities launch a major crackdown on all the ills of Magalluf and its infamous strip. It could be said that the problem is getting out of control. Everyone needs to work together. The Foreign Office and the Association of British Travel Agents are right to relaunch their campaign aimed at young people going on holiday to foreign resorts. But now is the time for action on the ground in Magalluf.  This has got to stop and now is the time to act. Magalluf has a problem and that problem needs resolving.
