Dear Sir,

YOU are constantly reporting the success of Monarch's new winter flights from Manchester. Welcome as they are, you are choosing to ignore that your readers are reporting more and more winter flights being cancelled from other UK airports. I can now tell you that EasyJet have just confirmed that they will no longer fly from 31st October from Newcastle to Palma - a popular service serving a large population over several years.

They give “no demand” as the reason for their decision, choosing to ignore the fact that demand can only exist if the flights are actually offered. The Tourism Department in Majorca should be lobbying the airlines to find out why they are behaving as they are. A reduced winter flight programme has always been well used. A virtually non-existant service will do great harm to the island and lose revenue for the airlines. Perhaps the Daily Bulletin can exert pressure on the Tourist Board, knowing the situation as you do, and stress to them that the cancellations are really serious this year and that they must act now

Yours, John Backhurst.
