RE: GLORIA ESTEFAN CONCERT

YET again, it seems, we see the true socialist approach of the spending of taxpayers' money, with Sr. Manchado's demand for the free tickets for last night's concert to be made available to Calvia residents.

There is no way that Calvia Council could have afforded to pay for tickets for yesterday's event without plunging the residents into unnecessary and avoidable debt. Whilst there are many Calvia residents who welcomed the chance to go to (or went on a reduced price ticket to) hear Gloria Estefan, I'm sure there is a far greater number of Calvia residents who didn't want to go.

At least ticket prices were realistic and I'm sure residents and tourists from other municipalities attended the concert. This is unlike the recently advertised Julio Iglesias concert which was grossly overpriced, resulting in poor ticket sales and ultimate cancellation of the event. At a time of financial crisis, it's nice to see some signs of belt tightening!

P.S. Re: Lack of maintenance of Calvia Walkway - if my memory serves me correctly, it was designed and envisaged as just that - a WALKWAY - not a walkway cum cycle track, rollerblading/skateboarding/moped and at-times motorbiking causeway! No wonder it's falling apart.
