UNFORTUNATELY, it takes a major recession to bring out many of the faults within Majorca´s tourist industry. Over the last three months we have received literally hundreds of letters from readers complaining about the tourist industry on the island. I would like to thank all those people who have sent us letters and I sincerely hope that they continue do so. All the letters have contained valid points and come from people who obviously love the island but want some faults ironed-out. The local tourist industry will have to change and I believe that the constructive criticism which has been made by our readers will help it to do so. Last week we were contacted by the Balearic government who appear to be taking seriously some of the comments and suggestions made by readers in the letters-to-the-editor section.

This is good news because some times I believe that the local authorities are not too aware of what tourists and foreign residents are saying. Tourists and foreign residents should be involved in the evolution of the tourist industry because they are all part of Majorca´s future. I am proud that this newspaper is able to act as mouth-piece for them and it will continue to do so. So if you have any comment to make, send it to us for the good of Majorca.
