Dear Sir,

I WAS interested to read the letter from M. Irving, Portals Nous in your Editor on September 22, 2009 regarding the spending of taxpayer money by the Mayor of Palma Sra Calvo on trying to control “botellon” in the city. This reminds me of something my late father told my brother and I when we were young teenagers - lads always remember, it's so easy to spend someone else's money. Over the years I have realised the best people to practice this principle are the politicians - both local and central government. They have the legal power to extract taxes from the public but never ask the advice of the taxpayer when large sums of money are to be spent. Their attitude is you pay - we spend.

Yours, Brian Griffiths
