Nightmare at Mallorca

By Jason Moore THERE were many unhappy fans at the Ono Stadium on Sunday as Real Mallorca were held to a draw and it is now looking increasingly unlikely that Paul Davidson will go ahead and buy the club. Davidson should finally purchase Mallorca this Wednesday (tomorrow) although many on the island actually doubt that this will happen. Davidson, dubbed the Plumber because of his major pipe company, has not officially pulled the plug on the deal but over the last few days no-one in the media has been able to contact him. He was also expected to be at the match on Sunday although he didn´t turn up. So Real Mallorca are in crisis; the Davidson deal appears to have broken down and there is only one other interested buyer, former Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd. However, it is highly unlikely that Shepherd will offer anything like the 38 million euros which Davidson was allegedly offering for the club. So unless he trebles his offer (he initially offered 10 million euro) it is very unlikely that his bid will be accepted. There are rumours that a group of Majorcan businessman could buy the club and the other option is that all the fans band together offer 2'000 euros and then the club will belong to them. Unfortunately, and excuse the pun, that is just a pipe dream.
