In the end it's the market forces that decide and there is a huge gulf in that respect between women's and men's football. When the turnstiles click the wages go up - yes it's almost obscene to see some of the money at the top of the men's game BUT if people agree to pay huge sums to watch it then that's where the money goes. The FA could do better at distributing the proceeds through the game but they're feeble at funding the grass-roots of the game. England's women performed well and I'm pleased for them but in the quality of their passing etc. they are nowhere near the quality, for instance, that we see in women's tennis compared to men's, where quite rightly the financial rewards have been dramatically increased. Women's football would benefit from it being played as a matter of course in all schools.
