The president of the Mallorca Hoteliers Federation (FEHM), Javier Vich, spoke at the recent FITUR tourism fair in Madrid of the “good forecasts and sensations” for the sector in 2025, which they expect to be positive and similar to 2024, and also announced that it is estimated that 30% of the hotels will open in February. My question is where outside of Palma?

For the past few weeks, I’ve been trying to find a reasonably priced hotel out of the city for a weekend break. Can I find one? No is the answer and many of my friends and colleagues are complaining of the same problem. Furthermore, I am again being bombarded by special ‘flash sale‘ offers from nearly all of the leading hotel chains, but when I try to make a booking, 90% inform me that they are not opening until April 11. It appears a secret deal has been cut between the main players in the hotel sector not to open until April 11 - perhaps it is because Easter is later this year - but if that is the case it doesn’t say much for the hotel sector’s faith in winter low-season tourism.

Yes, there are some lovely hotels open but, considering the time of year, they are far too expensive, which is what some professionals in the private sector are warning, Mallorca is becoming too expensive. I guess I’ll wait until March and go to Egypt.
