Trying to find a winter weekend hotel deal is a proving a challenge in Mallorca. | Majorca Daily Bulletin reporter

The president of the Mallorca Hoteliers Federation (FEHM), Javier Vich, spoke at the recent FITUR tourism fair in Madrid of the “good forecasts and sensations” for the sector in 2025, which they expect to be positive and similar to 2024, and also announced that it is estimated that 30% of the hotels will open in February. My question is where outside of Palma?

Morgan WilliamsI have to disagree with you here. That is a sweeping generalisation. Many tourists want to come and enjoy the much milder winter by the sea. Cycling, horseriding can all be done by the sea. I even saw tourists sunbathing in Alcudia just last Weds! Thankfully there was a choice of restaurants open for them in the port. But, yes, the demographic of tourist is generally different in the winter months but there will always be those who prefer being by the sea, to being in the countryside. Especially those who do not want the added expense of car hire.
TawnyIt's the inland hotels, fincas and villas that are popular in the winter. They're not coming for the beach, nightclubs, beach bars, fast food and junk shops. They're coming to golf, sightsee, cycle, horseback, to get away from the icy north, and to work remotely in a nicer climate.
Morgan WilliamsYes, most of the resorts, especially on the east coast, are like depressing ghost towns! Took me a long time to get used to seeing this when I took my dogs out for the day. Plus side is that the dogs can have fun on the beach and there are no crowds of tourists. But for a tourist not being able to find a bar or restaurant open is reason enough never to return to the island! But I do think the Hotelier Mafia's D-Day is fast approaching. I, for one, will enjoy watching their fall as it will be a well-deserved result of greed, complacency and bone idleness!
A 20m2 hotel room overlooking a cold, windy beach in a boarded up tourist resort isn't particularly attractive to the winter tourist demographic. So, if you're looking for something "outside of Palma", Magaluf probably isn't going to bring you any joy.
Pull some Lycra on Humphrey and you’re sorted. Cycling hotels will be opening up very soon and some already are open for the spring season.
This is true ie no way are 30% of Mallorca's hotels open. I doubt that it's even 10%
