A boat was gutted by fire and three cars in a garage were damaged by the flames in Magalluf yesterday. The fire broke out in the Villa Blanca building in Calle Piñada at about 3am, and the building was evacuated by firemen because of the danger of explosions. The building has 28 apartments, most of them occupied by foreign residents. The blaze was tackled by firemen from Calvia and Andratx, and it took them three hours to bring the blaze under control. Although the cause of the fire has not been officially determined, it is believed to have started in the boat and then spread to the nearest vehicles. The garage was soon filled with thick black smoke which hampered the work of the firemen. The roof of the garage was seriously damaged. The area has been sealed off because the Guardia Civil of Palma Nova are investigating the origin of the fire.
