Balearic President Francesc Antich yesterday said in Minorca certain people have been trying to create an artificial tourism crisis by blaming the tourist tax for the things which are wrong with the Balearic tourist industry. Hitting back at comments made by the Secretary of State for Tourism, as expected Antich said that the figures suggest that hotel occupancy is the same as last year, adding that now is not the right time to start drawing up a balance of the season. Antich also disagreed with the Secretary of State, Juan Costa's claim that the Balearics is the least dynamic autonomous community in Spain. The Balearic president did not however make any comment about Costa's advice to hoteliers to stop worrying about price hikes and start worrying about improving the quality of services.
