Michael Douglas jetted back to the UK to join his wife Catherine Zeta Jones yesterday just minutes before Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith touched down. Douglas left with a spring in his step, still smiling about the huge success of Thursday night's Van Morrison concert at his Costa Nord cultural centre in Valldemossa. Morrison gave two magical concerts back to back, both brought the house down, and all eyes were on the second gala performance of the night which was attended by Prince Felipe of Spain and the Duke and Duchess of Palma, the Infanta Cristina and Iñaki Urdangarin. While crowds went wild over Van Morrison the reception for the royals, who were greeted at the entrance by Michael Douglas was overwhelming. Van Morrison was not the only Irish rock star in Valldemossa, which had been sealed off by police who mounted a massive security operation, bigger than when President Bill Clinton visited the village. Sir Bob Geldof slipped in to the venue unannounced between concerts. Geldof, who visits the island every year is staying in Deya with his children.
