The Guardia Civil have handed out 92 nautical fines this year, the majority to boat owners who do not have a skipper's licence. 224 inspections have been carried out by the Guardia Civil marine unit and 16 people have been fined for failing to have the correct insurance and 11 jet skiers penalised, mainly for jet skiing too close to swimmers and the beach. This year the number of boats in the Balearics is more than ever and the marine unit is working round the clock to keep a close eye on recreational craft, beaches and marinas in order to make sure that maximum safety levels are maintained.
