Sixty-four year old George Waugh loves cycling so much that he rode his bike from Pollenca...to Newcastle! A keen cyclist and long time Majorca resident, George found that there were not many other British people on the island who shared his passion. Apart from frequently taking his bike to Binassalem for a jaunt with Majorcan friends, he felt that his pedal skills were just not being stretched far enough. A phone call from a friend on Majorca planted the seed of a great journey across Europe.... “My friend Harry came up with the idea of riding from Majorca to home and we thought yes, why not. He couldn't actually make the trip himself but he planned all the logistics of the operation. My son Kevin flew in to Barcelona to join me on the ride.” George rode the 70 kms from Pollenca to Palma's ferry port and took the high speed ferry to Barcelona. He there met up with his son and they headed on their bicycles towards Perpignan in France, taking care to stay away from the main roads.
