Reial Mallorca's summer policy of buying players before choosing a new coach may have backfired when it transpired yesterday that defender Fatih Akyel could be returning to Turkey. Former club Galatasaray and Istanbul neighbours Besiktas are both said to be interested in the player, who joined from Gala during the summer. Mallorca secured the transfer of Fatih after former coach Luis Aragones decided to leave the club and before announcing replacement Bernd Krauss. The transfer now looks to be a failure after Fatih failed to find a regular starting place in Krauss's team during pre-season. The Turkish international has recently become even more unsettled after Krauss left him out of the side's first two league matches and Tuesday's Champions League victory over Arsenal. Galatasaray have first refusal on the player, but it looks as though Besiktas are willing to fight their close rivals for the highly-rated player.
