The Balearic ministry of education and culture has organised a special show to mark European Day of Languages. It will be held at the conservatoire in Calle Capitan Salom and it will start at 8pm today. The show is called Cantem Plegats, Let's Sing Together, and in it children from countries as far apart as Morocco, Germany and Ecuador will sing songs from their homelands and then repeat them in Catalan. The show will be followed by videos in which several foreigners will explain their personal experiences in integration in the Balearics. In announcing details of the show, Joan Melià, the director general of language policy, said an aperitif with local products would be served. He added that all the products have been labelled in Catalan, and pointed out that there are now about 1'000 products with Catalan labels on the market. Melià said that morning performances of the show would be organised at a later date so that younger children could see it. He added that celebrations of European Day of Languages would be complemented by the distribution of educational brochures for primary schoolchildren, dealing with languages around the world.
