The world crisis caused by the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States was very much to the fore at the presentation of the Chamber of Commerce's annual awards. It was mentioned in all the speeches, but there was also an unanimous appeal to businessmen to weather the storm and beat the instability. This was particularly evident in the speeches of deputy government leader Pere Sampol, and Miquel Lladó, the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Majorca, Ibiza and Formentera. The long and distinguished guest list included ministers Celesti Alomar, Joan Mesquida and Fernanda Caro, government representative Catalina Cirer and Parliamentary speaker Maximiliá Morales. Also present were the Mayors of Palma, Joan Fageda, and Inca, Pere Rotger; University rector Llorenç Huguet; the leaders of the various business associations, Josep Oliver, Pau Bellinfante, Demetrio Peña, Pere Cañellas; the director of Sa Nostra, Pere Batle, the director of Son Sant Joan airport Mariano Menor and the president of the Port Authority Francesc Triay.
