The Marratxi council has approved a motion rejecting the expansion of the Son Bonet airfield under the master plan for airports drawn up by AENA, the Spanish airport authority. The motion was presented by the conservative Popular Party (PP) and approved unanimously by all the political parties represented on the council. The spokesman for the PSM (Majorcan Socialist Party) said that the master plan was out of line because it had not taken into account the impact on the resident population. The council had already lodged a list of objections to the plan, which was published in the Official State Gazette last month. It will now send a letter of protest, complaining that its objections have not been taken into account, and also complaining that it was not informed of the final decision of the ministry for development, of which AENA forms part.
