The Balearic Ministry for Labour yesterday stepped in to try and save jobs at the financially troubled Majorcan pearl company Perlas Majorica. The government's director general for Labour, Fernando Galan, met members of the company's board of directors for talks yesterday and heard Perlas Majorica's director of human resources, Antonio Barrionuevo, admit that redundancies are likely. Galan said that he wants to see fluid avenues of communication established between the company and the injured parties. Balearic Minister for Labour, Eberhard Grosske, said that he has placed his department at the company's complete disposition to make sure that there is a flow of dialogue between all parties involved in order to minimise the impact of the crisis as much as possible.
