Deputy Mayor José María Rodríguez said yesterday that the Palma city council was prepared to allow a committee to investigate contracts for public works, providing the same is done by the Council of Majorca and the Balearic Islands. I imagine that it is not only the institutions which are not governed by the Pact (the five-party coalition which rules the Balearics) that have to be investigated, he added. He rejected irregularities in the contracting of the services of the advertising agency Velasco y Simó. It has been alleged that the company sent bills to the council and municipal firms for concepts different to the work carried out.Rodríguez said that the council had only contracted the company for two jobs, which came to four million pesetas, and only one of them, on the city's corporate image, has been paid.
