The Platja de Palma is back on the Palma council agenda with opposition parties criticising the resorts inclusion in the Tourism Excellence Plan when no studies have been carried out in to what the area really needs and how to solve its problems. While Palma Local Police claim to be winning the war on prostitution, petty crime and noise contamination along the Platja de Palma, city councillors doubt that an investment of 900 million pesetas as part of the Tourism Excellence plan, will have any positive effect on the area at all. Socialist party councillor Toni Roig, said the amount of money is not enough any way, while Majorca Union party councillor, Ferran Trujillo, said that none of local resident or business associations have been consulted as to how the money would best be spent. City council sources said that once the funding has been confirmed, then decisions will be made as to how it will be spent. Tourism Councillor Joan Bauza said the Platja de Palma is the safest resort in Spain.
