A sixty-year-old woman died yesterday after fire destroyed her Palma flat. The blaze was reported at 5pm by neighbours in calle Antoni Ribas. Emergency teams from the 112 and 061 emergency services rushed to the second floor flat along with a large number of fire crews. The entire block of flats was immediately evacuated, but eight other people were injured in the blaze. The cause of the fire has still yet to be confirmed and last night fire investigators were still combing the building for clues. All of the injured were rushed to hospitals across Palma while the Palma fire brigade battled the flames. The area was cordoned off by the Local and National police and firemen had to use breathing apparatus to enter the building. Sources for the fire brigade said that the blaze spread unusually quickly. By late yesterday evening the fire had been extinguished and structural engineers were inspecting the building.
