Just 48 hours after the National Police drugs squad in Majorca busted a Colombian drug cartel operating on the island, the drugs squad yesterday seized 16.5 kilos of hashish resin in Ibiza. The bust was made in the Port of Ibiza in the early hours of yesterday morning when police arrested a 28-year-old Argentine carrying the 16.5 kilos as he walked off the ferry from Denia. Police also intercepted two other men in their 30s who were waiting to collect the trafficker. Police also searched the Ibiza homes of the three suspects and found 425 grams of cocaine, 50 grams of hash resin and 14 ecstasies along with state-of-the art scales for weighing the drugs. Police sources said that one of the suspects works as a disc-jockey in Ibiza's clubs, but detectives believe that the job was a front for his drugs dealing. Two of the three suspects being held have criminal records and police believe that the trio are part of a gang which operates in Alicante and Almeria as well as Ibiza. Police sources also revealed yesterday that three arrest warrants have been issued by different courts on the mainland for one of the men being held who was carrying fake identification documents.
