The Balearics will be hoping for a little bit of luck this morning when the draw for the El Niño lottery is made. While the Christmas Fat One, El Gordo draw is the big lottery attraction of the year, over 500 million euros are up for grabs. The Balearics was left empty handed by El Gordo, not a single peseta dropped in the islands but fingers will be crossed this morning for El Niño. Just under half of Spain has bought a lottery ticket this year and all will be tuning in today to either watch of hear the first major lottery draw of the year being carried out in euros for the first time ever. The winners will not be the first euro lottery winners, the ONCE has already paid out to winners this year. There are 504.840.000 euros (883.998 million pesetas) of total prize money with the top prize for the winning series of ten tickets being 1.440.000 euros (239.595.840 pesetas).
