Last year the Balearics registered one of the highest divorce rates in Spain. With a divorce rate of 8.7 divorces per 10'000 inhabitants, the Balearics last year clocked up the second highest number of divorces, second only to Cataluña. The national average was 6.6 divorces and 10.5 separations for 10'000 inhabitants. With regards to separations, the Balearics was third on the list with 12.2 per 10'000 inhabitants. While 76 of every 100 marriages are Catholic, one in three weddings in the Balearics are carried out at registry offices. The national average age for men getting married is 30 and for women 28 and the latest study has found little variation across Spain.
