Ausbanc, the Association of Bank Users, has launched a campaign against the practice of rounding up the price of using local car parks. Spokesman Carlos Hernández described it as a bad practice which is creating unfair profit for the companies, because they are charging for a service which they do not give. At a press conference yesterday, he asked why the car parks charge an hour when the car has only been parked there for 35 minutes. That's like going to a butcher's for a 900 gram steak and paying for one kilo. Ausbanc has denounced this practice at the city hall and the Balearic ministry of public works, housing and transport, in an effort to regulate the situation, Hernández said. e said it was a pity that the car parks charged by the hour or half hour at least and not for the exact number of minutes, adding that the Madrid and Barcelona councils are taking steps to remedy this. There are 778 vehicles for every 1'000 inhabitants in Palma.
