Leading Majorca hotel chain Sol Meliá has been named as Best European Hotel Chain by the British travel industry magazine Travel Weekly. Sol Meliá tipped other leading chains such as Hilton, Sheraton and Holiday Inn for the prestigious award. Sources for Sol Meliá said yesterday that the award was thanks to the votes from British travel agents and tour operators in recognition of the hard work the hotel chain has invested in improving the quality of its services and tourism facilities. Sol Meliá has a long and well established relationship with the British market; it accounts for 15 per cent of its clients world wide. The award coincides with the final phase of Sol Meliá*s renovation of the Hotel Meliá White House in London. Once the project has been completed, it will further boost the chain's image in the UK. Sol Meliá is already the market leader in Spain, Latin America and the Caribbean with 250 hotels in 30 countries. Sol Meliá will also announce at the FITUR trade fair, that five of its hotels have been admitted to the highly prestigious The Leading Hotels of the World Club.
