FELANITX: The hoteliers association of Portocolom have expressed their indignation at the poor image of the popular resort, which is in the municipality of Felanitx. They claim that the water course which opens into Cala Marçal has not been cleaned, and leads to flooding whenever it rains heavily. The association's chairman, Joan Esteve, has been complaining about this since 1995, and although promises have been made, nothing has been done. “However little it rains, the streets and the beach are flooded,” he said yesterday. Other problems include smells from the sewers, poor street lighting and neglected public green zones. The recent bad weather has only emphasised the problems.

MANACOR: The management of the Perles Orquídea pearl factory in Montuiri is planning to return to Manacor, ten years after it left the city. Mayor Miquel Riera said that it had been “an historical error” on the part of the council to allow the company to leave Manacor after 50 years, and said he would do everything in his power to make Manacor known once again as the City of Pearls. It is good news for the counci, after the problems at the rival pearl factory Majórica, which are still nowhere near solution, despite government efforts.
