The Spanish Post Office has signed a contract worth 28.38 million euros with the company Solystic to supply and install seven machines for automatically sorting folio-sized mail. The first will be installed in Madrid and will be working early next year. Others will be installed in Barcelona, Vitoria, Valencia and Sevilla before the end of 2003. But the Balearics will have to wait until the second stage of the operation comes into operation. The new machines can handle 38'000 letters an hour or 1.8 million a day. Four companies bid for the contract but Solystic offered the best terms.
