Balearic government spokesperson, Antoni Garcías, yesterday urged the local hotel sector to return to the negotiating table and sit down with the government for talks considering that the tourost tax has been introduced. Garcias said that the government has analysed the tax's progress since Wednesday's introduction and reached the conclusion that everything is absolutely normal. He admitted that the tax will need some time to settle in and for people to get used to the new levy but said the government is most satisfied with the general level of understanding on the part of foreign visitors. Garcias urged the hotel sector to drop its offensive and start working together with the government to ensure that the summer season is a success. The time has come for eveybody to start taking their responsabilities seriously and for the hotel sector and the government to join a united front in the crusade for a quality tourist industry. The government spokesperson also claimed that the latest tourism figures the government has indicate that the summer season will transpire to be a good one.
