The Spanish Navy sail training ship Juan Sebastian Elcano sailed into Mahon yesterday and this weekend will be open to the public as part of the celebrations to mark 200 years of Spanish rule. The sailing boat is celebrating its 75th anniversary and is in the process of touring ports around the country. Tomorrow, Saturday, the sailing vessel will play a key role in the Solemn Act of Commemoration of the Treaty of Amiens which effectively ended foreign rule on Minorca. The vessel will host a reception for all those taking part in the commemoration. The Elcano has also visited Palma. British troops are also taking part in the celebrations of Spanish rule in Minorca.
