A jubilant Robert Winsor yesterday announced that his four charity golf tournaments have raised a record total of 50 million pesetas for handicapped children in Majorca. Winsor, accompanied by the director of the Santa Ponsa Country Club, the main sponsor of this year's event, revealed yesterday that this week's charity tournament raised 90'024 euros (14'978'733 pesetas), breaking last year's record of 14.5 million pesetas. The total 300'374 euros (49'987'030 pesetas) fell just short of the 50 million mark, but an ecstatic Winsor told the Bulletin yesterday afternoon that he would make up the difference. Singing the praises of all the stars, players and sponsors, the Casino held the gala dinner, auction and prize giving on Thursday night, Winsor was lost for words when trying to describe just how generous David Eastall has been. Eastall kicked off the donations by writing out cheque for 18'000 euros, however he wrote off the cost of the first night dinner the club hosted and also help pass the 90'000 euro mark. Charity with a capital C, Winsor said. This year all the money will go to help autistic children in Palma, those with Down Syndrome, pay for more wheelchairs, much-needed equipment for centres for the handicaps and two more special mini-buses.
