A two year old Spanish child died in a council run swimming pool in the Bahia Azul urbanisation near Llucmajor yesterday just 24 hours before his third birthday. The Guardia Civil have launched a full investigation into the incident. The swimming pool had two lifeguards who were allegedly on duty at the time of the incident. His parents were also present. The exact circumstances of his death have not been revealed so far. The parents of the two year old were being comforted by relatives yesterday. The death of this child comes just two weeks after the death of a five-year-old Scottish boy at a hotel swimming pool in Porto Colom. A lifeguard was on duty at this swimming pool also. Under Spanish law all public swimming pools must have a lifeguard on duty at all times. Also, the necessary depth of the pool must be clearly displayed. The Balearic government has often warned parents to be especially vigilant, especially when it comes to very young children. This latest incident has sent shockwaves through the close knit community of Bahia Azul.
